Description of the company

Universal Music Group N.V., is a record company, widely positioned worldwide, being one of the most important, as well as Sony and Warner Music.

The current version of the company is created in 1998, through the union of Seagram, Polygram, including Deutsche Grammophon and Universal Music Group which was previously called MCA Music Entertainment Group, although it was dependent on the film studio, until 2004 when General Electric NBC acquires Vivendi Universal Entertainment and separate the music division retaining its name.

In 2006 it is purchased in its entirety by Vivendi SA, a French media and a year later is joined to BMG Music Publishing, maintaining its core business activities, also, in 2011 UMG becomes the production firm of American Idol, donating in that year to the Library of Congress almost two thousand original recordings made between 1920 to 1940.

In 2012 they acquire EMI, although the European Commission determined that the group could not keep all of its dependencies, so in 2013 they sell several EMI catalogs and divisions to various clients, including Warner.

From 2020 the group owner of UMG, Vivendi opens the main headquarters of the record label in the Netherlands, listed on the Amsterdam stock exchange since then, although it also has its facilities in California and New York, among the most prominent labels are Interscope, A & M, Geffen, Universal Music Latino located in Miami and Universal Music Group Nashville in the United States.
