Description of the company

SBM Offshore N.V. is a conglomerate headquartered in the Netherlands, dedicated to the commercialization of systems and services associated with the offshore oil and gas industry, being one of the pioneers in the implementation of single buoy mooring systems.

SBM has its origins in the association Industriële Handels Combinatie (IHC), which was founded in The Hague, with the participation of dredging specialists such as Gusto Shipyard, Conrad Shipyard, J. & K. Smit, L. Smit, Machine Factory De Klop, and Verschure & Co. Smit, L. Smit, Machine Factory De Klop, and Verschure & Co. who joined forces to gain a stronger presence and strength abroad.

This cooperation results in a formal merger in 1965 where 5 of the 6 boards of directors decide to stay in the IHC company, engaging in offshore production, drilling pontoons, oil rigs, single buoy moorings, drillships, among others.

In 1969 they founded SBM Inc. in Switzerland, as a subsidiary of IHC, designing the first permanent mooring system in 1973, four years later they developed the SALS yoke thus eliminating the need to use dynamic elevators, growing in such a way that in 1990 they acquired IMODCO, one of their main competitors located in California, deciding to completely change the name to SBM Offshore N.V. in 2005.

They are currently engaged mainly in the design, supply, installation, operation and maintenance of FPSO vessels required for the offshore industry, especially in remote areas, with more than 7,000 employees worldwide.
