Carrefour S.A., is a European group, multinational distribution, with the modality of hypermarket chains, has approximately 380 thousand employees, with revenues exceeding 85 million euros in 2018, have broad positioning in the French market, although it has managed to expand to more than 30 countries distributed between Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

It was founded in 1959 in Haute-Savoie, creating in 1963 the concept of its hypermarkets open to the public located in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, expanding rapidly, reaching Belgium in 1969 and later Spain and Brazil, building in 1972 its largest center in Portet-sur-Garonne Toulouse, France, producing four years later a range of basic articles bearing its brand name.

The group merged with Promodis in 2000, changing its name to "Carrefour", alluding to crossroads or crossroads, becoming the second largest group of its kind in the world, after Wal-Mart, although it is currently the largest in Europe and ranks third in the world, opening its thousandth hypermarket in China in 2006.

In 2019, it had 11,960 stores, of which just over 5,000 are in France, more than 4,800 in Europe, approximately 1,000 in the Americas and the rest in Asia, highlighting markets such as Spain, Brazil, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Senegal, Cameroon, Romania, among others.
