Michelin, (Compagnie Générale des Établissements Michelin, S.A.) is a French company dedicated to the manufacture and marketing of tires, based in Clermont-Ferrand, is considered the most important organization in its sector in the world.

The company has 123 factories located in 26 countries, with commercial activities in 170 markets on all continents, approximately 125 thousand employees and 9 research and development centers.

It was founded in 1889 by the brothers André Michelin and Édouard who already had experience in the industry, created a model of detachable rubber for bicycle which they patented in 1891 being used in the Paris-Brest-Paris race in that year, since then it has been characterized by its participation as a manufacturer of tires for motorcycling and world rally competitions including Formula 1 and Formula E.

In 2007, they obtained the record of having manufactured the world's largest tire, the 59/80R63, designed for the Caterpillar 797B truck, which is used for mining excavation, weighing 5 tons each and measuring 4 and a half meters in diameter.

Among other activities, the company plans tourist guides, road maps, the Michelin Guide, the development of GPS-guided driving and the creation of automated routes in partnership with Tele Atlas.
