Its beginnings derive from the coffee shop De Witte Os, founded by Egbert Douwes in Joure, Netherlands, in 1753, becoming in 1780 a marketer of coffee, tea and tobacco, opening its first business in Germany in 1895, selling its products in France, Spain, Denmark and Belgium from 1948.

They arrived in the United States in 1966 with their coffee shop Peet's, then made a series of acquisitions that expanded throughout Europe, buying Horniman's Tea, Van Nelle and partnering with others such as Philips for the production and marketing of the Senseo coffee maker.

Changed its name on several occasions responding to the various purchases or partnerships, it is from 2015 when Jacobs Douwe Egberts merges with Peet's Coffee and they acquire JAB Holding, when JDE Peet's
