Description of the company

Barrick Gold Corporation is the world's largest transnational mining company focused on the extraction of gold, silver and copper in open-pit quarries.

Its headquarters are located in Toronto, Canada, with more than 23 mines distributed in several countries such as the United States, where it obtains its largest production, as well as Australia, Chile, Canada, Dominican Republic, Papua New Guinea, Argentina, Peru and Zambia.

It operated exclusively in Canada and the United States until 1993 when it extended its activities to Argentina, Peru and Chile through the acquisition of mining companies. In addition, in 2009 it signed a contract with the government of the Dominican Republic to extract silver and gold, making South America an important part of its operations, obtaining 19% of its production in those countries.

In 2010 it received a Guinness World Records award for the installation of the world's tallest wind turbine located at its "Veladero" mine in the province of San Juan. The company is also currently working on a series of sustainability and environmental protection actions after it was shown in previous years that its operations affected several rivers by pouring water containing cyanide into their flows.
