Description of the company

Citigroup Inc. is a U.S. company dedicated to providing financial services and life insurance, through the use of banking, business advisory, capital markets, with personal and corporate clients.

It was created in 1998 through Citicorp, a company formed in 1812 that made several acquisitions and associations, becoming one of the most important banks in its country, having a wide growth in the 70's, becoming known worldwide as Citibank, but in 1998 it joins Travelers Group, consolidating itself as the largest in the world.

In 2017 it was seriously affected by the financial crisis, declaring a net loss of approximately nine million dollars, with a 50% drop in its shares.

However, it maintains a strong presence and extensive operations through two main business lines, Citicorp dedicated to global consumer banking and Citi Holdings with secondary assets.

Its headquarters are located in New York, United States, but it has expanded to more than 160 countries, with operations in 23 Latin American countries, although between 2014 and 2016 it sold its consumer banking subsidiaries in El Salvador, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
