Barco N.V., specializes in the research and development, design, manufacture and marketing of digital projection equipment and imaging technology, focusing on three main markets, the entertainment industry, cinemas, hotels, healthcare, diagnostics and medical imaging and the business sector offering equipment needed for meeting rooms, conferences, among others, has more than three thousand employees, positioned in 90 countries and owns more than 500 patents.

The name is an acronym of "Belgian American Radio Corporation" which was founded in 1934 by Lucien de Puydt, originally dedicated to assemble radios with parts from the United States, beginning to expand rapidly, in 1949 the corporation diversified its functions to develop a television that received different signals, being in 1967 one of the first companies to manufacture televisions with color images.

From 1960 it developed industrial mechanical components, cathode ray tubes and transistors; in 1980 it supplied technology to large corporations such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Apple; since 1990 it has included liquid crystal displays, digital light processing, light-emitting diodes and liquid displays, covering other markets such as security, monitoring, entertainment, virtual reality, traffic control, medical imaging, digital cinema and avionics.
