Description of the company

Alibaba Group is a private consortium dedicated to electronic consumption, through the Internet, by means of wholesale and retail portals, as well as sales among consumers.

It was founded in China in 1999 by Jack Ma, who opened the website Alibaba.com, a sales portal that grew rapidly due to its business-to-business modality and is one of the best-known platforms of its kind worldwide, competing with eBay and Amazon.com, although only in 2012 it surpassed them both in sales.

It currently has more than hundreds of millions of items distributed in more than 40 categories, which in turn are divided into more subcategories, including product lines associated with the home, consumer electronics, clothing, footwear, machinery, makeup, decoration, among many others.

Its main operations are located in the People's Republic of China, where it also includes the online payment service, delivering 60% of the packages purchased through e-commerce in that country, but it is available in 190 countries, receiving more than 100,000 messages daily through its platform, which operates continuously.

In 2021, due to new laws passed in China, it had to cancel a fine of US$2.8 billion and submit audit reports.
