Information about Altria Group
Altria Group Inc. is a transnational company dedicated to the food, beverage and tobacco industry, it is the owner of the former Philip Morris USA company and the group is formed by US Smokeless tobacco Company, Philip Morris Capital Corp, Nu Mark and John Middleton,
Its beginnings date back to the origin of the Philip Morris company founded in 1902 in New York, manufacturing and marketing mainly cigarettes, they created the Marlboro brand in 1924 promoting it for both men and women, which caused some commotion, in addition to opening up to racial inclusion 30 years before the passage of the Civil Rights Act in the USA.
They bought General Foods and Kraft Foods and it was not until 2003 when they changed the name to Altria Group Inc. In 2008 they separated the Philip Morris division into two, leaving one for U.S. production and another totally independent international division, which caused a drop in production, however, it is still one of the largest tobacco companies in the world.
The group owns the Marlboro, Benson & Hedges, Virginia Slims, Merit, Parliament, Basic, Cambridge, Alpine, Bucks, Dave's, Chesterfield, Commander, Lark, L&M and part of JUUL brands through the Philip Morris USA division.
