Description of the company

Prysmian S.p.A., a semi-public multinational company, with 67% of the members of its board of shareholders being independent, specializes in the manufacture of electrical cables, used in the telecommunications, fiber optics and energy sectors, and is a leader in the wiring of wind farms.

It was founded in 1879 under the name of Pirelli Cavi e Sistemi, obtaining a contract in 1881 to create submarine telegraph cables. Five years later they inaugurated a production plant for this material in La Spezia, helping to lay the Italian telegraph network and the electrical network for domestic use, later collaborating with the government for the installation of the interurban telephone network.

In 2005 they acquire Pirelli & CSpA's Cable and Systems division and in 2017 they manage to buy their biggest US rival, the General Cable company, expanding their importance widely.

It has more than 150 years of experience, with presence in more than 50 countries, supported by 30 thousand employees, registering more than 16 billion euros in sales in 2022, offering cabling solutions for Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Telecommunications, Construction and Infrastructure, Transportation and Mobility, Asset Monitoring Systems and Electronics and various Industries.

The company invests more than 100 million euros a year in research and development and has developed numerous innovations, such as the narrowest and most flexible optical fiber and the cable with the highest number of fibers in the industry.
