It was founded in 1874 by Johann Philipp Schifferdecker, in Germany, producing eighty thousand tons of portland cement in 1896, acquiring a series of companies that allowed it to grow continuously, producing more than one million tons per year.

The company began its international expansion process in France in 1972, conquering American territory in 1977 with the acquisition of Lehigh Cement and entering the European market in 1990. Since then, it has maintained its growth strategy through partnerships and acquisitions, and today has a 150-year history, with a payroll of more than 51,000 employees.
