Its beginnings come from the company VIAG, since 1923, which at that time operated as a state-owned organization that supplied electricity, nitrogen and aluminum, including the marketing of coal in 1926, which were seriously affected during the Second World War, however, in 1939 they acquired half of Bayernwerk AG, being privatized from 1965 until 1987.
It opened its first nuclear plant in Germany in 1967, starting with a series of changes that allowed it to inaugurate its first wind farm in 1987, expanding internationally in 1991 and entering the telecommunications business in 1993. In 2000, it presented to the European Union the decision to change its name and corporate identity to E.ON, with a closed high-voltage network.
Following this change, the company acquired Powergen in the United States, and then Ruhrgas, changing its strategy in 2003 with the intention of becoming a company that integrates both gas and energy services, soon reaching many other countries such as Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Poland.
The company has a broad portfolio with several business areas, highlighting Energy Grids, Digital Grids, Smart Metering, Hydrogen Projects, Electric Mobility, Electronic Transport, Energy Solutions for Companies and Cities, Gas Technologies and Solutions.
