Description of the company

Qualcomm, is a multinational company dedicated to the creation of telecommunications systems, software, semiconductors and special services that require wireless technology.

It was founded by Irwin Jacobs along with other collaborators, in 1985, calling it Qualcomm as an acronym for "Quality Communications", conducting research activities in relation to the technology needed by cell phones with the CDMA patent, as well as the sale of a communications system that worked through a mobile digital satellite which they called Omnitracs, later incorporating the 2G standard.

In 2021 they acquire NUVIA, a server company, with which they design processing units for laptops, in 2022 they buy Arriver with software for advanced autonomous driving systems and Cellwize, over the years they expanded both their positioning and their activities by developing components for watches, software for cars, wi-fi, smartphones, among others.

Another major interest of the corporation is the creation of patented intellectual property, as standards, with the option to offer licenses to companies that require it, which is a part of its annual revenue, but does not manufacture products or equipment. Therefore, its business is divided into three categories: QCT, referring to CDMA wireless technology, which generates 80% of its revenues, QTL, which has to do with licenses granted by patents, obtaining 19% of its revenues, and QSI, which focuses on strategic investments, representing the remaining 1%.
