Description of the company

Proximus Group N.V., formerly known as Belgacom Group, is Belgium's largest telecommunications company, currently operating as a joint venture, partly owned by the state and partly by private investors, specializing in offering mobile and fixed-line telephony services.

It was founded in 1994 through a partial merger between 75% of Belgacom and 25% of AirTouch, which later merged with Vodafone and was bought by Belgacom in 2006. Since its creation, Proximus has taken advantage of the analog MOB2 network and the GSM network, making changes as innovations in the telecommunications sector arose.

In a fairly saturated market, the group occupies approximately 45%, including television services in its portfolio in 2014, currently the group's activities are broken down as follows:

  • Business telecommunications: fixed and mobile telephony, internet access, data transmission and communication minutes.
  • Telecommunications to individuals: interactive television, fixed telephony, mobile telephony and Internet access.
  • Carrier services: connectivity, international services.

Services are offered through various brands, depending on the activity and location, Belgacom is used for fixed telephony, Proximus for mobile communications and Telindus for ICT services, 77% of its sales come from Belgium, with more than 11,000 employees.
