PSI 20 Dividend 2024

The PSI 20 is Euronext Lisbon's main stock market index in Portugal. It was established in 1992 and is composed of the 20 most relevant companies listed on the Portuguese market.

This index reflects the performance of the Portuguese stock market and is weighted by market capitalization, which means that companies with a larger market capitalization have a higher weight in the index.

Most of the PSI-20 companies distribute dividends, and among the best known are EDP - Energias de Portugal, Galp Energia, Jerónimo Martins and Banco Comercial Português.

How is the PSI-20 value calculated?

To determine the daily value of the PSI-20 stock market index, a mathematical formula is used based on the market capitalization of its constituent companies:

PSI-20(t) = PSI-20(t - 1) × Σ Capi(t) / [ Σ Capi(t - 1) ± J ]

A J adjustment factor is used to compensate for the impact of financial transactions such as capital increases or reductions, thus avoiding sharp fluctuations in the share price.

The value of the PSI-20 on a specific day is obtained by multiplying the value of the PSI-20 on the previous day (day t-1) by a percentage calculated from the sum of the capitalizations of the 20 companies on day t, divided by the sum of the capitalizations on day t-1.

The daily capitalization of a company is calculated by multiplying the number of its outstanding shares by the quoted price of those shares on that day.

For example, if the PSI-20 closed today at 6,300 points and the total capitalization of the 20 companies is EUR 200 billion, and tomorrow the capitalization increases to EUR 202 billion, the final close of the PSI-20 tomorrow would be:

PSI-20 (specific day) = 6,300 × 202/200 = 6,363 basis points.
