EDP- Energias de Portugal, S.A., is a group dedicated to the generation and distribution of electricity in Portugal and its bordering countries, considered one of the most important in Europe in its sector, manages part of the Spanish company Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico, with presence in some countries in South America, Africa and Macao.

Its main activities include the production of renewable energies, making use of solar energy, wind energy and hydropower, as well as providing services in networks, telecommunications, information technology, customer solutions, energy management, energy consulting, Windfloat: floating offshore wind and Windfloat: floating offshore wind.

It was founded as a state-owned company in 1976 through the merger of thirteen small companies and was named Electricidade de Portugal, being in charge of modernizing the existing electricity distribution network, as well as planning and developing the expansion of the service and establishing a system of tariffs and load management.

In 1997 they went through the first phase of privatization, expanding internationally two years later, continuing with a gradual process of selling shares, becoming in 2010 the EDP Group, which became one of the 500 largest companies in the world, currently present in 14 countries, with more than 12 thousand employees worldwide, who work to serve more than 10 million customers.
