Description of the company

Kenmare Resources plc, an Irish mining company, is considered one of the main producers of mineral sands in the world, operating the Mona mine, which contains the most important titanium deposits, making it the fourth largest producer of titanium-based raw materials.

It was founded in 1972, working in oil exploration as Kenmare Oil Exploration Limited, registering again in 1987 as Kenmare Resources plc, acquiring a 95% license to operate heavy mineral sands in Mozambique, in addition to which the company worked in the Ancuabe graphite mine until 1999.

In 2007 they began to extract ilmenite from the Moma mine, making their commercial production official in 2009. The following year one of the retaining walls of the ponds failed and generated a flood of non-toxic water in the nearby town, so they had to stop activities until they rebuilt 300 houses, revised the berm system and changed the designs of some of the engineering firms that advised them, resuming operations later.

The products it explores and markets are mainly extracted at the Moma mine, with titanium raw materials being the most important, basically through ilmenite and rutile, in addition to primary zircon and mineral sands, which are used as a base for the manufacture of pigments, used in the manufacture of paper, plastics, paint, inks, cosmetics, personal care creams, among others.
