Hera S.p.A., derived from the name (Holding Energia Risorse Ambiente, Energy Resource Environment Holdings) is a company engaged in the energy industry, especially in the distribution of gas, power, water and waste disposal, operating in some areas of Italy, mainly in the provinces of Ferrara, Ancona, Modena, Rimini, Florence, Urbino, Ravenna, Bologna, Pesaro and Forlì-Cesena.

It was founded in 2002 after the merger of eleven companies that performed public services in Emilia-Romagna and was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange the following year, becoming partially privatized. From that moment on, it began a process of mergers and acquisitions that allowed it to grow and expand its activities, obtaining important long-term contracts.

The holding company is the administrative and operational decision-maker, which is derived from seven business units, Fluid Distribution, Services, Large Plant Engineering and Power Distribution, Environment, District Heating and Commercial and Marketing, which result in a portfolio of services comprised of:

  • Gas distribution, which corresponds to 45% of its revenues.
  • Waste Management, in which they carry out collection, energy recovery, waste disposal and composting, representing 26% of the profit.
  • Water treatment, sewerage and purification, 20%.
  • Electricity, 5.5%.
  • The remainder is obtained through other one-time services such as heating.
