Description of the company

Avantium N.V., an Amsterdam-based company dedicated to the sustainable and renewable chemical industry, is focused on Research and Development, creating and commercializing technologies for the manufacture of chemical products based on renewable materials and sources, offering PEF, a renewable, biodegradable and recyclable plastic that has a vegetable origin, which can be used in the textile, film and packaging sector.

It was founded in 2000, in a spin-off process from the Shell organization, aiming to dedicate its efforts mainly to high-performance R&D researching catalysis, then obtaining a series of partners to create the emerging company as an international consortium, starting in 2005 to offer the systems they develop to their customers.

As of 2006, they incorporated YXY technology for plastic plants, which is used in the production of FDCA and PEF. Over time, they made investments and divestments, establishing their value chain and creating other subsidiaries such as the Renewable Chemistries unit, responsible for converting biomass into ecological plastic materials and chemical building blocks.

They currently have approximately 200 employees, with plants in the Netherlands, Geleen and Delzijl, encompassing three business units: Renewable Polymers developed and marketed at Avantium Renewable Polymers, Renewable Chemistry perfected at Avantium Renewable Chemistries and Catalytic R&D Solutions, researched at Avantium R&D Solutions.
