Information about The Navigator Company
The Navigator Company S.A., a Portuguese group formerly called Portucel Soporcel, is engaged in the production of printing paper, eucalyptus pulp, tissue paper and biomass energy generation.
It has its beginnings since 1953 with the Portucel paper mill in Cacia, manufacturing pine pulp, being one of the first in the world to introduce the commercialization of eucalyptus bleached with sulfate, although in 1974 the paper industry was nationalized and subsidized by the state, purchased from Soporcel in 2001, remaining under the administration of Semapa after being privatized in 2004, which owns 77% of its shares.
Portucel Soporcel acquires several Goma businesses in Spain and France, changing the name of its brand to "The Navigator Company S.A.", has an infrastructure of three plants, with a production capacity of 1.6 million tons of paper, using eucalyptus as raw material, and owns more than 120 thousand hectares of forestry assets.
It is one of the most important exporters in Portugal, representing about 1% of the country's GDP, setting a record in paper manufacturing, reaching a turnover of more than 1.6 billion euros, being considered the sixth largest worldwide in the production of writing and printing paper, also commercializing white eucalyptus pulp.
