Walmart, Inc. is a U.S. multinational company that operates through department stores or supermarket chains divided internally into department stores associated with subsidiaries around the world, maintaining a policy of low prices.

Among the products that can be found in its stores are groceries, footwear, clothing, accessories, kitchen items, furniture, sporting goods, automotive, outdoor and garden, cleaning, electronics, among others.

It was founded in 1962 by Sam Walton, who years earlier had implemented the strategy of selling products at low prices, thus attracting more consumers, but because he could no longer lease the premises where he managed his business, he decided to open his own department store called "Walmart Discount City".

Its first store was located in Roger, Arkansas, but in just over five years it spread throughout the state and then across the country and much of the world through its branches, operating through three main units, Walmart Stores U.S., Walmart International and Sam's Club.

One of Walmart's most outstanding characteristics is its logistical capacity and strategies, being able to respond quickly to emergencies such as Hurricane Katrina.
