Description of the company

Smurfit Kappa Group plc, an Irish company specializing in the production of corrugated cardboard, has more than 350 factories worldwide and offices in 35 countries.

Its beginnings date back to 1934 in Ireland, establishing itself as a box manufacturer, being purchased by Mr. Jefferson Smurfit in 1938, several years later they acquired a stake in Time Industries in Chicago, later merging with 46% of Stone Container Corporation, thus forming Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation in 1998.

In 2012 they get a packaging company called Orange County Container, in addition to expanding their operations to Brazil in 2016, announcing a merger agreement between Smurfit Kappa and WestRock in 2023.

The company manufactures paper packaging, incorporating recycling and forestry activities into its operations, has packaging plants that produce the raw material needed in another part of its business structure, and supplies recovered wood and fiber to various customers. The company is headquartered in Dublin, with two other regional headquarters located in the Netherlands and the United States.

They are leaders in the production of corrugated board, recording revenues of close to 12.8 billion euros in 2022, with 243 production and packaging plants, 35 Paper Plants, 46 Fiber and Recovered Wood Centers and another 33 production centers, making close to 12.3 billion m2 per year in packaging, 8.4 billion tons per year of paper and recycling an estimated 8 billion tons of paper per year, with 67,000 hectares of forestry plantations.
