Description of the company

Obrascón Huarte Lain, S. A. Formerly known as OHL, is a Spanish construction company, with civil engineering activities in roads, airports, railroads, hydraulic works, hospitals, mining, ports and various buildings.

It was founded in 1911 in Bilbao under the name of "Sociedad General de Obras y Construcciones Obrascón, S.A.", having as its first work the construction of two docks in the Port of Lisbon, then in 1927 the construction company Huarte was born, which merged with the previous one in 1998 and in 1999 it joined Construcciones Lain, thus creating OHL, but in 2021 the Amodio brothers became majority shareholders, changing to the current OHLA.

Its headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain, and to date it has built more than 6,000 kilometers of highways in Spain and other countries in Europe, Latin America and the United States. It has also built 200 road projects for railroads, 600 projects related to maritime activities, 150 hospitals and many other works.

In 2021 it had to pay a fine of close to 21.5 million euros due to the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) imposed on it under accusations of having manipulated, for 25 years, together with other construction companies, thousands of tenders for the execution of various public works.
