Ence Energía y Celulosa, S. A., is a Spanish company dedicated to the pulp and renewable energy industry, through the transformation of wood logs obtained from the felling of forest crops for industrial use.
It began its activities as a public company, founded in 1957 called "Empresa Nacional de Celulosa de Pontevedra", merging ten years later with two other companies that performed the same function, one in Huelva and the other in Motril, but in 1994 it faced charges of ecological damage, for which practically its entire board of directors was affected.
In 2001 the company was privatized and positioned itself internationally, buying projects for pulp mill facilities, mainly in Argentina and Uruguay, although it was criticized for carrying out operations that were highly damaging to the environment, so in 2006 it began to carry out environmental improvement activities, allocating around 40 million euros for this purpose.
Its main headquarters is located in Madrid, with a production of pulp or eucalyptus cellulose pulp leader in the European market, in addition to this produces renewable energy from various processes, being renamed and redesigned in 2013 to its current corporate image with the intention of offering an image more associated with sustainability.
